Why not just divide container CBM by carton CBM?
Because cartons cannot be split. Fixed carton sizes leave gaps against the walls and ceiling, and stacking, orientation and weight limits reduce what fits. The container tools place every carton with real coordinates instead.
Are the container dimensions exact?
They are planning references. Internal sizes, door openings and payloads vary by carrier, equipment and manufacturer, so check the figures for the equipment you will receive.
